������ Kaoshon worked in international trade for over twenty five-years after graduating from Taiwan University.��He began as an employee in CIOT International Japanese Company in Taiwan, which was one of the five biggest Japanese companies.��After working several years, he was promoted to the supervisor of the garment department.��Ten years later, he became the manager of the garment department.��After that, he became a manager of the Japanese company in Taiwan.��Furthermore, he started his own international company after working in this company twenty-three years.��Even though he was old, he still had much energy for working because of his confidence, perseverance and knowledge.

������I met him fifteen years ago when started to work at a business company which was run in the import and export business in Taiwan.��Forty years ago, his father was the president of a famous high school which was Tainan High School in Taiwan, so he entered the high school.��Because his father had high level of education and taught him good family education, he could acquire a good bases of education.��After Kaoshon graduated from the high school, he passed the public university test, entered the best university in Taiwan and graduated from there.��In fact, he had a good education in knowledge, so he could achieve his success in life.

������When he worked at the Japanese company, he always collected knowledge continuously for his works.��Therefore, he was step by step promoted to higher and higher positions.��In fact, knowledge was essential, so he could be successful in his work.��When I was in sales in the import-export goods ten years ago, I often kept in contact with him.��Each time I met him, kindness and satisfaction always showed up on his face as if frustration never defeated him.��He often said, "If you want successes in life, knowledge cannot be lacked.��However, knowledge is both tangible and intangible so that you have to chase and understand it."��Because we had contact with each other often, we became good friends.��Furthermore, because of his leading, many people got together and became a group of good friends.��As a result, a group of us usually got together, talked of everything, and relaxed after working.

������ Each time we got together, some of my good friends often joked with him.��"Kaoshon is always so wonderful in doing his jobs because he never loses his confidence even though he is such an elder."��He was the oldest and had the best knowledge among our friends, but he never lost his confidence and energy in doing everything.��If everyone were like him, everyone would be successful in life.��That?s why some friends joked with him.��In fact, he organized his own international business company after working for the Japanese company for twenty three years.��After all, many of my friends could be successful in life because of his teaching.

������His wife had retired years early, and his two sons also inherited his merits, which allowed them to be successful.��One of his sons was a champion of English speech when he was in high school in Taiwan, and he got a Master?s in international trade and succeeded in doing international trade in Taiwan.��The other also graduated from Taiwan University and worked at the Mitsubishi Company in Taiwan.��Once he asked me what was essential for doing everything in life.��I said that he had to go to ask his father, and he could get wonderful answers.��Because Kaoshon always gave me correct ideas, he influenced me as if he was a model in my life.

������When I came to the United States last year (1996), I was so confused about how long I could live in the United States because I could not follow the native language.��I remembered the first time that I came to the United States in the winter last year.��That day I got up early in the morning because my flight to the United States would be leaving before the noon, and my house was located in the center of Taiwan far away from the airport.��When my friend, Lin, got to my house in Taichung, Taiwan to drive me to the airport, I had prepared everything I needed to bring.��After that, we drove toward the airport.��During the time on the way toward the airport, Lin said, "You will be an American.��How long will it be before you come back to Taiwan?"��I answered, "I am not sure how long I can live in the United States, but one of my friends, Kaoshon, said if you keep your confidence, perseverance, and knowledge, you will be successful no matter where you live."��Time flew quickly!��Suddenly, we arrived at the CKS Airport after two hours.��After I checked in, I got on the flight, and it flew toward the United States.

������I took North West Airline to come to the United States, and I had to transfer to another flight in the Detroit Airport to continue to come to Raleigh.��During the flying time, I always rethought of the situation when my friends got together with me and what we talked about.��Of course, that included Kaoshon, whom I respected so much.��Even though I was so bored and had nothing to do, I still enjoyed thinking on the flight.��When I arrived in Cary, NC, I resolutely made a decision to go to school to chase knowledge.��Therefore, I made sure to adapt to the condition in the United States.

������As I studied at Wake Tech last year (1996), I sometimes did not know what the teachers spoke and had to ask the teachers to write down what they spoke.��Even though I was very fluent when I was in my country, I felt very frustrated about learning English.��However, I never forgot that I should remain confident in order to persevere and that Kaoshon told to me to improve my language.��If people had more languages and good knowledge, they could be more successful in life.��Such was Kaoshon, who could speak English, Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese very well.��In fact, I could improve my English step by step because of his influence.

������This year (1997) I went to my country, Taiwan, to see my grandmother, who had got apoplexy and could not walk.��I encouraged her that you must keep confidence in your mind, still having hope in life.��Even though she was an elder, eighty-four years old, she became more understanding to keep going.��Finally, she could walk even though not very well.��In fact, confidence was a base of doing everything.��On the other hand, when she originally practiced walking, she had difficulties doing it.��However, she kept her perseverance to overcome difficulties and still could succeed in walking.

������During this time, which I visited my country this summer, I met Kaoshon, who was still full of confidence as if failure never frustrated him.��He asked me, "How is it going in the United States?"��I answered, "It is not bad because you always tell me you should promote your knowledge and keep your confidence and perseverance to be successful in your life.��Of course, I have to follow your real words, and how can I forget!"��He laughed, and we wished each other to have all the best in our future.

������In short, even though Kaoshon was not the most wonderful person in the world, he had success in his life.��Furthermore, there were several people who followed his lead and became successful in life, such as Hung, Cherng and Soung, who had already owned their business companies.��In fact, your life may be full of pleasure, upset, surprise and sadness, and they may be constantly changing.��However, you have to keep the essentials of how to be successful in life.
