Taiwanese history has inherited the history of China for thousands of years, both the ancient history and the modern history. The ancient history was the dynastic style, in which the emperor owned all powers and controlled the whole country. Furthermore, the emperor chose one of his sons to inherit his throne before his death unless others subverted his power and took over his throne. This dynastic situation continued for thousands of years until the Republic of China was established. Finally, when the last dynasty, the Ching dynasty, was very corrupt, Sun Wen led people with democratic ideas to topple it; they had strived against the Ching dynasty for over fifteen years and still reigned over it.The republic of China was established by Sun Wen in 1912.

Sun Wen died in 1925, and Chiang Kai-shek, who was one of his favorite followers, took over his power in China. However, the Chinese mainland was seized by communists, and Chiang Kai-shek moved to Taiwan with his followers in 1949.Therefore, the Republic of China was established in Taiwan. From the1950s to the 1970s under Chiang's leadership, the Republic of China in Taiwan developed rapidly in economic growth and educational promotion. After Chiang Kai-shek passed away in 1975, his son, Chiang Ching-kao was elected President by the National Assembly. With remarkable achievements until he died in 1988, he emphasized economic development, agricultural promotion, and construction in Taiwan. After that, Lee Teng-hui was sworn in as the President of the Republic of China in Taiwan. The important thing he did was to make an available health and medical insurance to all citizens in Taiwan. This law was passed by the Legislative Department and executed in 1994.In fact, the citizens in Taiwan only have to pay 10% of the amount of insurance.Consequently, the residents in Taiwan do not worry about their health and medical cares.President Lee had a higher education and helped Taiwan to become a science-and-technology country. Therefore, Dr. Lee continues to be elected as the President in Taiwan. However, the later period of President Lee, the politics in Taiwan is corrupt, and the nation's economy is depressed after 1996. As a result of democracy, Chen Swei-ben is elected as the President of Taiwan in 2000.
